KEY POINTS FOR SPIKING

1. If the first ball doesn't come to you, prepare yourself to attack the ball that maybe set to you. There is one setter and 5 hitters on a team.

2. Watch the ball go to your setter.

3. Know the type of set that you will be getting.

4. WAIT to start your approach until you see the set coming to you. (outside hitters).

5. Use your first two steps to make any adjustments to where you will spike the ball. Start with your right foot (4 step approach), and accelerate into the spike.

6. Plant your heels, swing your arms back hard, and rock to your toes, reaching up to meet the ball.

7. Spot the ball with your left hand, then bring it down in front of your body.

8. Elbow leads the hitting arm. You body should be bent like a bow, and snap forward upon contact.

9. Contact point is the heel of the hand, fingers spread wide and snapping over the top of the ball.

10. Follow through... snap the wrist, Grunt... hitting hand should end up neat to the hip.

11. Thank your setter for the set whenever you get one.

12. The two worst enemies a hitter has are her ego and lack of belief in herself.
