KEY POINTS FOR BLOCKING

1. Be at the net ready to block. MICKEY MOUSE - hands up next to your ears.

2. Watch the pass. See if it is going to the setter.

3. Watch and anticipate what the setter is going to do. Be ready for a setter's dump.

4. Once the setter has the ball, watch the ball leave her hands. Once the ball leaves her hands, you will know to whom it is being set to. LOOK AT THE SPIKER - NOT AT THE BALL NOW!!! The hitter will tell you where and when to block.

5. Outside blockers set the outside block. Set it early so the middle blocker knows where to stop.

6. Jump only after the hitter has jumped into the air.

7. Reach straight up along the net, leave no gaps between the net and your arms.

8. Outside blockers must turn their outside hand inward, to deflect any ball hit into it back into the court.

9. Watch the hit the entire way. Learn how to keep your eyes open throughout the hit.

10. BLOCKERS GOLDEN RULE - "A hitter gets a block only if she deserves a block!
